Geographical tongue (erythema migrans)

This common condition affects 1-2% of the population and involves the rapid appearance and disappearance of atrophic areas with a white demarcated border on the dorsum and lateral surface of the tongue, which gives the appearance of moving around the tongue surface. Several clinical variants exist. It is entirely benign. Sometimes it can be painful and Difflam can be used to alleviate symptoms.
