Burning tongue

This symptom is most common in post-menopausal females and the majority do not have any associated iron or vitamin B12 deficiencies. Other symptoms include unsubstantiated dry mouth and bizarre tastes. Although it is important to exclude anaemia, many of these patients will require anti-depressant therapy with drugs such as amitriptyline or dothiepin.
